Flamenco shoes have nails on the heel and toe of the soles.  It doesn't hurt.  It's just what helps to make all those beautiful flamenco sounds.  A long time ago, I took classes to learn how to dance flamenco.  This is my personal blog about me, my work and my novel in progress Dancing On Nails.
